Heating and Air Conditioning Admission Requirements

1. Be a high school graduate or equivalent.

2. Apply at Hawkeye.

3. Meet basic skill competencies in reading, writing, and math.

   Basic skill competencies assessment provides information about your academic skills in reading, writing, and math. This information will be used to determine your acceptance, course selection, and registration.

   For admission into the Heating and Air Conditioning program, you must score at least the following sub scores on the ACT or the COMPASS assessment:

   ACT sub scores	COMPASS scores
   19 - Math 19 - Reading 19 - English	24 - Pre-Algebra 82 - Reading 41 - Writing

   OR

   Complete all of the following college success courses with a "C" grade or higher at Hawkeye Community College or comparable courses at another accredited college:

   • ENG060 College Preparatory Writing I
   • RDG040 College Preparatory Reading III
   • MAT045 Fundamentals of Math

   OR

   Any combination of the above fulfilling the basic skills requirements of algebra, reading, and writing.

Admissions Process

1. Send your transcripts and test scores to the Admissions office.

2. Completed applicant files (we have your application, transcripts, and test scores) will be processed as follows:

   1. Applicants who do not meet the program's admission requirements will be inactivated and will be sent an Admissions Inactivation Letter.

   2. Applicants who meet the program's admission requirements will be accepted.

3. We accept approximately 20 students and 20 alternates each Fall Semester. Applicants will be accepted based on the date of the completed applicant file. The application date will be used to prioritize acceptance if needed.

4. If necessary, alternates will be contacted to fill unconfirmed positions in the program. Alternates will be given priority for the next Fall Semester.
