Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program
Hawkeye Community College and Allen students interested in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program should take the each of the following courses.
- ENG105 Composition I
- ENG106 Composition II
- SPC101 Fundamentals of Oral Communication
Humanities elective (3 credits)
Humanities elective is defined by Allen College as Art, Music, Theater, Dance, English, Foreign Language, Philosophy, History, Cultures, Civilization, Literature, Religion, Economics, and Communication Arts electives.
Examples may include, but are not limited to, courses with corresponding prefixes: MUS, ENG, PHI, LIT, REL and ECN.

- PSY111 Intro to Psychology
- PSY121 Developmental Psychology
Social Science elective (3 credits)
Social Science elective is defined by Allen College as Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology electives.
Examples may include, but are not limited to, courses with corresponding prefixes: GEO, HIS, POL, PSY, SOC and CRJ.

BIO173 Human A & P II w/lab (must be taken at the same institution as A&P I)
BIO159 Fundamentals of A & P AND
BIO163 Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology
CHM122 Intro to General Chemistry
BIO185 Microbiology w/lab
- BIO151 Nutrition (may be completed prior to OR during enrollment at Allen College)
- MAT156 Statistics
- Diversity course (any course exploring another culture; for example, courses with the corresponding prefix CLS)
- Elective courses in any field (6 credits)
A 2.7 GPA is required for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Meeting admission criteria does not guarantee admission into the program.
All nursing students will be subject to a background check prior to admission and licensure.
