New Student Checklist

Now that you've received your acceptance letter, go ahead and start working to check items off the list below.

Access Your My Hawkeye Account

My Hawkeye is your student portal at Hawkeye Community College. It is also where you will access your Hawkeye email.

It is very important that you log-in to your My Hawkeye account as soon as possible. This is where you will receive your invitation to your orientation and registration session, information on your financial aid award, and much more.

We recommend you log-in to My Hawkeye at least once a week to check for emails and notifications as many items are time sensitive.

Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships

Hawkeye offers eligible students federal and state financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study, based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

You can also apply for scholarships, money that does not have to be repaid, to use for educational expenses.

See Applying for Financial Aid and our list of available scholarships.

MORE Orientation and Registration

To register, you must sign up for and attend an on-campus MORE (Mandatory Orientation and Registration Experience) session.

Semester your program starts: MORE sessions are held: Check your Hawkeye email for your invitation:
Fall April - August at the end of March
Spring November and January at the end of October
Summer April - May at the end of March

Failure to attend an on-campus MORE session can result in the following:

  • You will be unable to register for classes.

  • Your admissions application to your program will be made inactive, meaning you will no longer have a seat reserved in your program of study.

  • Your start term may be delayed.

Review Assessment Score Placement Recommendations

Hawkeye Community College uses assessment scores to place you in the appropriate courses based on your current level of reading, English, and math.

College Success Courses may be required if your assessment score indicates additional help is needed.

See Course Placement Recommendations.
