WATERLOO—The commencement ceremony for Hawkeye Community College graduates is scheduled for Thursday, December 19, at 6:30 p.m. This event will take place in Hawse Auditorium in Tama Hall on the main campus. Students who have completed certificates, diplomas, or degrees in the 2013 Fall Semester will be recognized.
The keynote speaker is Beth Sindt. She is the only individual to be a two-time recipient of Hawkeye’s Outstanding Award for Faculty – in 2000 and most recently in 2012. The award recognizes her leadership and dedication to the College and to the students she teaches. She has been a full-time instructor at Hawkeye for many years and teaches general business courses, office-related courses, and math courses. Her list of professional involvement is extensive and impressive, including mentoring new faculty. She is co-advisor for Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year schools. She is a new board member on Hawkeye’s Foundation and also serves as an active member of the National Business Education Association and is a past president of the Iowa Business Education Association. In 2010, Sindt followed in her father’s footsteps and became an ordained minister. She is finishing her second year as pastor of her congregation in Cedar Falls. Sindt holds a bachelor’s degree in business education, with a minor in business administration, from Graceland University and a master’s of education degree from Iowa State University.
