Hawkeye Community College to Host Student Art Show on April 4

WATERLOO—The 14th annual Hawkeye Student Art Show will open on Thursday, April 4, in the college’s library on Hawkeye Community College’s campus, located at 1501 East Orange Road. This competitive student show will present art work, photography, and designs from students in the Fine Arts, Professional Photography, Interior Design, and Graphic Communications programs. The public is invited to attend the exhibit, including the opening reception.
The juried show will have an opening reception on April 4, with refreshments from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the awards will be presented at 7:00 p.m. The artwork will be on display through May 4 during regular library hours, which are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; and on Sundays from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. For more information on the art show, contact Kim Behm at 296-2320, ext. 1632.
Iowa native Mary Huber will judge submitted artworks. Huber was the original director of the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls. She is nearing retirement from the Hearst Center, where she has been a leading advocate for 25 years in the Cedar Valley. She holds degrees from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of Minnesota. Before coming to Cedar Falls, Huber worked 14 years in various capacities, including as a personal assistant to artist Charles Biederman at the Minneapolis Institute for the Arts.
