WATERLOO–The Hawkeye Community College Dental Clinic, located in lower Grundy Hall on Hawkeye’s Main Campus, is offering a 50% discount on its Hygiene Care Plan for veterans and active military, public safety personnel (police, fire, EMS), Hawkeye employees, and students from any college who call during February or March to schedule an appointment between now and May 1, 2017.

The Hygiene Care Plan includes an oral health assessment by a licensed dentist, dental cleanings, radiographs (x-rays), intraoral photos, fluoride treatments, sealants, study models, and patient education. Work is performed by Dental Hygiene students under the supervision of licensed dentists and other licensed dental professionals.

The clinic also offers a Dental Check Up Plan, which includes a complete exam with a licensed dentist, patient education, and intraoral photos. If a patient needs minor restorative work, they can also receive those treatments at the Dental Clinic. Hawkeye Dental Assisting students assist licensed dentists and are supervised by other licensed dental professionals.

The Hawkeye Dental Clinic is open to all ages and accepts Medicaid payments. Appointments may take longer than a typical dental appointment, and this is reflected in the cost of care. Please plan for multiple appointments of varying lengths. Appointments help students meet their clinical hours and complete their graduation requirements. Free screenings will take place Monday, February 6, from 1:00-4:30 p.m. and March 9, from 8:00-11:30 a.m. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome for screenings. The screenings help determine the treatments needs of patients. After assessments, patients can schedule follow-up visits for dental care.

The Dental Clinic is a supervised learning facility for students in Hawkeye’s Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs. Professional faculty oversee all procedures to ensure quality, and a supervising dentist provides screening exams to ensure patients receive comprehensive care through their family dentist.
