The 2nd Annual Powder 5k Fun Run/Walk was a great success! The Student Life department coordinated the event allowing participants to register for the 5k or the one mile with proceeds going towards student scholarships at Hawkeye Community College. There were more than 375 participants registered, creating over $5,000 in student scholarships. Community members and students braved the cold, rainy weather to come out and have a great time. Whether they wanted to walk or run, everyone came to the finish line looking all colorful from the multi-colored powder locations where student organizations and clubs such as Student Ambassadors, Criminal Justice Club, and Occupational Therapy Club dressed warmly and threw eco-friendly powder for participants to run through.
Participants also had the choice to purchase a t-shirt for the race and were given neon shades for eye protection. The event kicked off with Zumba to get everyone warmed up and ready for the fun run. This family-friendly event created an atmosphere for everyone to get involved and have a great time despite the chilly weather. Everyone was full of color and smiles at the finish line where they enjoyed post party with games and food that was moved indoors at the Health Education and Services Center.
Thank you for our 2014 sponsors: Rock 108, KOKZ 105.7, Hawkeye Bookstore, University Book and Supply, Courier Communications, and Family Health Chiropractic. Thanks for all who participated, and we look forward to having you back next year for more color, food, and fun!
