GED Testing

The GED testing consists of five separate subject tests.

  • Language Arts - Reading
  • Language Arts - Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Tests can be taken by appointment on Monday afternoons, Wednesday evenings, and Friday mornings at the Learning Center. You will schedule one test at a time.

Testing Process

  1. Obtain a test referral form from your GED teacher.
  2. Schedule an appointment to take a test.
  3. Bring the completed form and a valid, unexpired government ID. Driver's license is a valid form of ID.
  4. Pay the testing or retake fee.

You must achieve a minimum score of 410 on each of the 5 tests, and total score of 2250. If needed, test can be retaken.

No Online Testing

Please be advised that the GED credential cannot be earned via the Internet nor through correspondence programs. The GED Testing Service (GEDTS), a program of the American Council on Education (ACE), offers the only officially recognized GED test. The same GED tests are given in each U.S. state via Official GED Testing Centers only. In Iowa, all official GED testing centers are part of the community college system.
