This competitive student show will present art work, photography, and designs from students in the Fine Arts, Professional Photography, Interior Design, and Graphic Communications programs. Displays created for individual projects by students pursuing honor courses will also be available. The new edition of ETC, Hawkeye Community College’s literary and art magazine, will be released.
The public is invited to attend the exhibit, opening reception, and refreshments. The awards will be presented at 7:00pm.
The artwork will be on display through May 2 during regular library hours.
The juror for the annual spring student exhibition for 2014 is Joan Webster-Vore. She is a Trustee for Hawkeye Community College and a resident of Hudson, Iowa. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa where she received a BFA in Drawing, an MA in Textile Design from the Department of Home Economics, and an MFA in Design from the Department of Art and Art History. Her work appeared in numerous competitive, invitational, and solo exhibitions both nationally and regionally, including FiberArt International. This was at the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she won the Josephine Cohen People’s Choice Award in 2007. In 2008, she was awarded a large public art project, “Dance of the Ginkgo,” which is permanently installed at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. In the 1980’s, she created the large fiber ‘Fish’, and it has been on display at the Waterloo Public Library. Most recently, she designed some of the banners displayed in downtown Waterloo Expo Plaza.
