I am the fifth generation actively farming on our family farm near Jesup Iowa. Our operation is diversified with row crop production and cattle.

I have essentially been involved in Agriculture/Farming my entire life but officially began my Cow Calf operation somewhere around 2007 while still in high school. Around 2011 I started buying bottle calves from the local sale barns and raise them all the way to finish, typically 1,400 – 1,600 lbs.

On the crops side we mainly plant corn, soybeans, oats, and alfalfa/hay. We have also started using cover crops on a majority of our acres, especially if going into soybeans the next year. We use a number of Precision Ag technologies on our operation including: Soil Sampling, Auto Swath (Sprayer), Auto Row Shutoffs (Planter), Yield Monitor, and Auto Steer systems just to name a few.

In grade school I was active in both 4-H and FFA earning championships for showing sheep and earning my American Degree in FFA.

I am a proud alumni, graduating from Hawkeye Community College earning both an Agriculture Business degree as well as a Liberal Arts degree. I continued my education at Northwest Missouri State University graduating with high honors with a degree in Management from the Melvin D. and Valorie G. Booth School of Business.

I enjoy spending time with my family and being involved in Agriculture and the family farm. It is great seeing my children grow up and being involved in our family operation learning and helping out around the farm themselves.

My advice for students is to pursue your passion, do something you enjoy, and never stop learning and trying to improve yourself in all areas of life.
