Mentoring and Induction

Mentoring and Induction

Good teaching doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by design.

Welcome New Faculty

New faculty come to us with the desire to be the best teacher they can be. Our commitment to them is to supplement their desire with the skill and tools it takes to become the successful teacher they envision.

Our commitment to every new to Hawkeye full-time faculty member is a two-year mentoring and induction program designed with two goals in mind

  1. to provide a welcoming and supportive climate, and to teach, model
  2. provide guided practice in research-based instructional practices

Faculty Trying New Things

Faculty who are new to teaching online will benefit from the guidance provided by experienced online faculty, technical support provided through the Brobst Center for Teaching and Learning Services, and Hawkeye's online standards. Contact the Brobst Center for Teaching and Learning to get started with customized support.

Faculty who are new to teaching on our ICN or EBS distance-learning systems should contact the Distance Learning Coordinator for technical and pedagogical support. Our distance-learning instructors’ forum meets for question and answer sessions each semester.
