Database Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: This individual evaluates, prioritizes, assigns, and monitors hardware, software and computer equipment problems and/or assigns requests to the appropriate staff members. Analyzes user needs and develops software solutions. Designs, develops, creates, modifies, and debugs computer software applications. Installs and/or supports software applications/ databases/ network/ operating systems. Develops database utilities and Automated Reporting and Design Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence platforms. Configures, monitors, performs tuning, backup and recovery of the databases and applications; writes programs; and participates in the testing process through test review, analysis and writing test cases for software applications. Analyzes, consolidates, and tunes stored procedures, reports for optimal efficiency. Investigates and analyzes requests and problems using both technical and interpersonal skills to draft and propose effective solutions. Troubleshoots any problems that arise from the database, the software and the software configuration. Writes queries using query retrieval languages to query the data and data structures of the system. Works with member college representatives to design, create, implement and maintain reporting capabilities. Assists in the development of record-keeping requirements, as well as provide the data necessary for management decisions and strategies. Actively participates in cross-training functions as both teacher and student. Provides assistance and backup for other staff when necessary. Communicates with team members about primary work functions, especially where there is an overlap of duties. Works extended hours such as early morning, evenings/nights, holidays and/or weekends as necessary at critical times and for system upgrades, or to provide technical staff coverage for essential services outside of traditional business hours. Maintains and supports SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Development and Production environments for the College. Works on meeting the SQL Reporting and Data needs for the college. Works with End Users in gathering Business Requirements for the reports and data projects. Develops Stored Procedures/Views/Functions/Triggers/ Tables based on the Technical Requirements of Reports. Develops and designs reports in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) and Visual Studio 2008+. Moves the SQL scripts, stores procedures, views, functions, and reports definition files from Development database/ reporting tool to Production environment. Builds and deploys Reporting Services reports in Development and Productions environments. Checks the Reports/Stored Procedures/Views/Functions Performance and does SQL Performance Tuning to improve the performance. Works with Unit and System Testing of Reports/Stored Procedures/Views/Functions by comparing the data and functionality with business requirements. Works closely with Reporting End-Users regarding User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of Reports i.e. Data Issues/Formatting Issues/Security Issues/Performance Issues etc. Assists in assigning Active Directory Security Groups. Sets up Security and Manage Security model in Database and Reporting Services. Develops the Business Requirement Documentation (BRD) for each and every Report. Maintains and supports existing Applications/Reports and develops enhancements as per end user requests. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and at least eighteen months’ work experience in a 200+ user information systems environment with at least one year of customer service experience. Experience in MSSQL maintenance and report writing (SQL, T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SAN, DTS, ETL); and experience using Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Reporting Services required. Experience with relational databases and query retrieval languages. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize activities, meets deadlines, quickly diagnose problems and provide clear resolution. Strong analytical and documentation skills. Strong written and interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Ability to work in a collaborative environment. Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel. Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to providing quality service. Preferences include advanced skill sin the use of Microsoft SQL Server administration and maintenance; database design, custom reporting programming; experience with Ellucian/Datatel Colleague ERP; experience within an educational environment.
