JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time position teaching courses in the Sustainable Construction program with an emphasis on energy efficiency and building science. Instructional areas will include residential mechanical systems, residential electrical systems, heating ventilation and air-conditioning systems, energy analysis, monitoring and retrofit procedures to reduce existing an existing structures energy losses. Ability to use or learn to use and remain current with the latest innovations in energy efficient construction and building science. Major responsibilities include planning and guiding the learning process, including curriculum design and implementation, toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects for student implementation. Other responsibilities include active participation as a department member with a focus on student learning, facilitating discipline related activities, assessment of student achievement, student academic advising, and department committee assignments. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. This individual will maintain cooperative relationships with the Dean, other faculty, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Special training and 6,000 hours of recent, relevant work experience. Ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public. Ability to apply teaching skills, motivate and interest students, be personable and professional, and be able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas. Preferences include a related Associate’s degree.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position beginning in August of 2014. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
