JOB SUMMARY: This individual develops a focused and integrated student retention process for developmental education students focusing on skills needed inside and outside of the classroom. Utilizes Hawkeye’s academic support services, financial assistance, personal advising, and counseling services to enhance each individual student’s program completion. Develops in conjunction with the administrative chair a research-based, systematic approach to assess retention needs. Refers students to career staff across campus to assist in finding career pathways for them after they complete developmental education courses. Facilitates a collaborative process with faculty and staff to retain and increase persistence rates for developmental education students. Provides a retention program with interventions: a) Integrates intervention practices and support services for students whose lack of performance and or attendance may cause barriers to successful completion of course work; b) Creates and implements preventative measures to include but are not limited to early and ongoing review of academic status of students for appropriate academic intervention referrals, financial and personal advising, and counseling services. Participates in appropriate college committees. Prepares required reports, develops appropriate surveys, and completes evaluation documentation processes. Presents and coordinates retention training workshops for student, faculty, and staff. Performs other related professional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or closely related field. Two years of experience working in an educational setting. Leadership ability and excellent communication skills. Experience in student retention issues related to college level intake and orientation, diagnostic/classroom assessment, computer-based tracking, and educational, financial, and personal advisement. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to collect data and information for assessing retention efforts. Working knowledge of computers and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to work with diverse populations, students, faculty, and staff. Preferences include experience working with adult student population; work experience within a community college.

Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
