English Language Learning/I-BEST Lead Instructor/Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: This individual team teaches contextualized English Language Learning (ELL) classes within an Integrated Adult Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) framework. Assists in curriculum development, implementation, and coordination of ELL I-BEST classes. Co-teaches new I-BEST ELL/CNC Machining course by serving as the basic skills/ELL pedagogical expert/literacy enhancing instructor in cooperation with the content area instructor. Does necessary collaboration to ensure success of I-BEST team-teaching model. Provides professional development for appropriate staff on ELL I-BEST instruction. Assists Director with publicity for ELL I-BEST classes. Stays current on research involving the I-BEST model of instruction. Attends site visits to other colleges offering I-BEST classes. Assists in development of and provides instruction for ELL transition to college/bridge classes. Collaborates with other college departments to ensure success of bridge classes. Develops and teaches new summer session ELL classes. Teaches ELL and U.S. Citizenship preparation classes as needed. Provides substitute ELL teaching coverage as needed. Teaches digital literacy to ELL classes as needed. Assists with development and instruction for expanded ELL/Family Literacy programming as schedule permits. Maintains good communication with Director and Coordinator by providing information about current trends and practices, in addition to concerns, issues, and changes within the college and community. Assists Coordinator with implementation of Department of Education initiatives. Ensures program compliance with state requirements. Collaborates with college personnel on all necessary data tracking. Maintains program records. Makes recommendations for purchases of new teaching materials and equipment for ELL I-BEST, bridge, and summer classes. Serves as a resource person for ELL staff. Serves as a positive voice to community groups about ELL. Assists program staff with ELL student registration and computer-based assessments such as CASAS and COMPASS as needed. Collaborates with college and community personnel as needed. Attends meetings with community and college groups as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field. Equivalency of at least one year teaching experience required. Highly developed skills in interpersonal relations. Ability to team teach. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple projects and objectives simultaneously. Highly developed computer skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public). Ability to work collaboratively with staff from multiple departments. Preferences include teaching and/or TESOL certification; experience teaching adult ELL classes; experience team teaching and/or as a lead teacher; experience teaching using the I-BEST model; experience teaching bridge classes or other college preparation for ELLs; experience with low-literacy level adults; knowledge of instructional strategies and materials for teaching adult ELL; experience developing ELL curriculum; experience teaching digital literacy to ELLs; experience working with Family Literacy; experience with computer-based assessments.
