Academic Specialist, TRIO/SSS Grant Project

JOB SUMMARY: This individual develops appropriate reading and writing curricula for students. Assists with the development of student development plans for under-prepared students. Provides instruction for students in one-on-one and small group settings. Provides assistance in the supervision to peer tutors. Assists with student and project evaluation. Monitors student’s progress through periodic assessment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Bachelor’s degree in reading, English, or related area. One year teaching experience in reading, writing, English, or related area. Experience teaching students with learning disabilities. Experience in curriculum development, individual learning plans, and computer based instruction, or computer assisted instruction. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills. Working knowledge of teaching methods and techniques. Ability to work with diverse groups, faculty, staff and students. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Preferences include a Master’s degree in English or Special Education.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part time grant funded position (twenty hours per week for nine months). A choice of retirement programs - IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
