PTA Instructor and Clinical Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: This individual serves as a full-time core faculty with assignment as Clinical Coordinator in the Physical Therapist Assistant program. The Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE) is responsible for coordinating the clinical education component for the program, in addition to being part of the core faculty. Responsibilities include coordination of clinical education; student advising and scheduling; assisting with program curriculum development implementation and evaluation; and assisting in program marketing. This individual will have the responsibility of providing high-quality classroom instruction and leadership to the students of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. Necessary skills for this position include the ability to formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assess student progress on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required, develop and maintain relationships and contracts with clinical sites, evaluate a clinical site’s ability to offer quality clinical education, and manage the assignment of students to clinical sites. Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities such as computer-mediated instruction is essential. Beyond instructional responsibilities, this position requires advising and providing leadership to students and clinical instructors. Travel to clinical sites will be required. This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork and communication skills with supervisors, program faculty, clinical site coordinators (CCCEs), clinical instructors (CIs), the Advisory Committee, other divisions of the College, and the community Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN). Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. Must be a Physical Therapist or a Physical Therapist Assistant and hold or be eligible for professional licensure as required by the State of Iowa. Demonstrates the academic and professional qualifications and relevant experience in education requisite for providing effective clinical education coordination and classroom instruction. These qualifications include all of the following: at least two years experience in clinical education as a CCCE or CI, or experience teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a PTA or PT program; clinical or educational administration experience; experience in human resource management; experience in variety of areas of teaching (academic, clinical, continuing education, in-service); and experience in monitoring student performance skills and readiness for clinical experience. Ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public.
 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position beginning in August of 2014. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
