JOB SUMMARY: This individual answers the multi-line phone system and gives general information in response to public or official inquiries. Uses good judgment, tact, and courtesy when dealing with the public or staff. Assists staff with data entry related to case management and file maintenance. Operates a calculator or other office equipment. Uses knowledge of office terminology and procedures to complete projects. Understands and follows complex oral and written directions. Completes data entry into IWorks. Prepares miscellaneous spreadsheets and correspondence. Organizes and sends bulk mailings. Maintains general knowledge of all IowaWORKS programs, classes, and activities. Maintains verbal and written confidentiality in all areas of responsibility. Conducts phone conversations in pleasant and efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED. One year education in secretarial or related program or one year clerical/office experience, personal computer, and multi-line telephone system experience. Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to work with staff, job seekers, local and State business and Government officials, and the general public. Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets. Working knowledge of email and Internet. Ability to work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work with confidential information. Ability to provide excellent customer service and skill in public relations. Ability to handle business documents and forms. Ability to demonstrate correct English usage. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Possess good organizational skills. Possess accurate data entry skills.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time position with wages expected to be $11.32 per hour. Position includes a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave and a choice of retirement programs: IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
