Physical Therapist Assistant Instructor and Program Director

JOB SUMMARY: This individual serves as core faculty with assignment as Program Director in the Physical Therapist Assistant program. Performs instructional duties as assigned and in accordance with College procedures, policies, and practices. Presents and discusses program issues with the Program Advisory Committee. Participates in faculty development each year as required. Effectively administers and grows the PTA program, including curriculum development, student registration/advising, community relations and campus relations. Supports College program designed to achieve student completion/Board pass rates. Collaborates with other Program Directors within the School of Health Sciences and across campus and with the Dean regarding scheduling, curriculum, and other academic and administrative issues. Notifies the Dean of expected or unexpected substantive changes(s) within the program and of any change in program accreditation status. Assures full compliance with Federal, State and accrediting body standards and regulations, as well as adhering to all policies and procedures. Facilitates the submission of required CAPTE fees and documentation, including reports of graduation rates, performance on State licensing or certification examinations and employment rates in cooperation with College administration. Maintains collaborative and respectful work environment. Demonstrates professional behavior and interpersonal competence with internal/external stakeholders, administration, faculty, staff, and students. Other responsibilities as needed or specific to the discipline.
QUALIFICATIONS: Physical therapist with current and unencumbered license in the State of Iowa or Iowa-eligible OR physical therapist assistant. Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited University. Five years clinical experience that includes experience in the PT/PTA relationship. Management experience. Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement accreditation criteria and State agency regulations. Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community. Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities. Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, business leaders, and public groups. Experience with computerized administrative systems. Proficient with the use of standard office applications on personal computers. Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills to handle multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines. Currency in contemporary physical therapy practice. Preferences include fiscal management experience; service on behalf of physical therapy education, the community, and/or the profession; and Higher education teaching experience: didactic and/or clinical teaching; educational theory and methodology, e.g., curricular design, development, implementation and evaluation; instructional design and methodology; student evaluation and outcomes assessment; knowledge of contemporary curricular content and design for PTA education.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Twelve-month contractual position. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
