Creating and Maintaining a Social Media Presence
Hawkeye Community College maintains an official presence on the following social media sites: - Facebook
- Flickr
- Twitter
- YouTube
Before creating a separate social media presence for your office, administrative, or academic department, consider if you would be better served by working with the Public Relations and Marketing office to utilize Hawkeye's primary social media presence. By creating your own presence, you should be prepared to maintain it and keep it updated, as you would with a department web page. Hawkeye's social media presence is considered an extension of the official website, and most guidelines that apply to the Hawkeye website also apply to your social media site. Personal Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blogs, and other social media accounts should not make reference to Hawkeye Community College, including abbreviations, in web address, usernames, or descriptions as not to confuse audiences as to which are Hawkeye's official social media presences. Social media accounts and presences should not be created in an attempt to imitate or be disguised as the official communication from Hawkeye. To ensure the continuity of Hawkeye's brand and identity, if you are exploring the creation of a social media presence for your office, administrative, or academic department, please first contact the Marketing Coordinator in the Public Relations and Marketing office to discuss the process and address profile naming, logo use, graphics, etc. Social Media ContractThe Public Relations and Marketing office must have a signed copy of the social media contract on file before any social media presence is created, recognized, and linked from the Hawkeye website. Please contact the Marketing Coordinator for more information. Student Clubs and OrganizationsIf you are interested in creating a social media presence for your club or organization, please contact the Student Life Coordinator. On Facebook, it is recommended that clubs and organizations use groups instead of pages. A social media contract signed by the club advisor must be on file with the Student Life Coordinator. The Student Life Coordinator must be an admin to the social media presence. The social media presence must be approved by the Student Life Coordinator and the Marketing Coordinator before it is recognized and linked from the Hawkeye website. Other Social Media SitesAt this time Hawkeye does not support the creation of other social media presences for your office, administrative, or academic department. You can contact the Marketing Coordinator for questions. Personal Social Media AccountsPersonal social media accounts will not be linked from any official Hawkeye social media presence or from the Hawkeye website. |
