CLEP Assessment
The CLEP (College Level Examination Program) offers a wide range of college level exams through which you may receive college credit. If you have acquired knowledge through experience or prior academic learning that may be equivalent to college level courses, Hawkeye offers the opportunity to get credit for that knowledge. CLEP tests are similar to final exams in undergraduate courses. EligibilityFind out before you register for a CLEP test whether or not you are able to establish credit through CLEP. This will avoid any possibility of duplication between courses you wish to take and the examination. For example, if you have completed or are in the process of completing a college Biology course, you are not eligible for CLEP credit in biology at Hawkeye. Previously enrolled and transfer students must avoid taking an examination in a subject area which they have completed or attempted college level work. If you are testing to receive credit at another college, please refer to that institution’s eligibility policy. Preparing for the CLEP AssessmentMost CLEP exams are 90 minutes long and are administered on the computer. This efficient delivery system provides immediate results, with exception of an essay component. Each exam begins with a tutorial to demonstrate the ease of test taking. CollegeBoard.com offers a CLEP at a Glance fact sheet that you can download. The CLEP fact sheet contains sample questions to prepare for your CLEP test along with exam descriptions, knowledge and skills required for the exams, listings of suggested textbooks, and websites for studying.
