Senior Companions

About Senior Companions

Serving as a Senior Companion provides individuals with limited incomes to:

  • remain physically and mentally active
  • provide assistance to maintain other senior citizens' dignity and independence
  • enhance their self esteem

Companions are provide a stipend for their time and other benefits so they can provide service without additional cost to themselves.

The Senior Companion program begin in September 1976 to serve the Waterloo area. Hawkeye provides administrative and in-kind financial support as the sponsoring agency.

Senior Corps

This program is apart of the Senior Corps and is federally funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Senior Corps encourages more than half a million Americans, age 55 or older, to use their skills, talents, and experience to meet the community's needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security and other areas.
