Become an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic with Tyson!

Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc.Industrial Maintenance Mechanics at Tyson fix and maintain machines, equipment, and facilities to keep them running smoothly. This program teaches you important skills like welding, mechanics, electrical work, and hydraulics.

Hawkeye Community College offers two eight-month programs each year to help you get the training you need for this exciting career.

As a part of the program, participants receive training in:

  • Mechanical Power Systems 1
  • Rotating Electrical Machines (Motors)
  • Electrical Motor Troubleshooting 1
  • Mechanical Drives 1
  • Hydraulic Systems 2
  • Mechanical Power Systems 2
  • Laser Shaft Alignment 1
  • Electrical Motor Control Systems 1
  • AC Variable Frequency Drives
  • Electrical System Installation 1
  • Process Control Systems
  • Welding
  • Basic Hydraulic Troubleshooting
  • Motor Controls Troubleshooting 1
  • Pneumatic Troubleshooting 1
  • Sensor Logic Systems 1
  • Mechanical Systems 3

This program has also been approved as a registered apprenticeship program through the Department of Labor.

Full-time Tyson employees can earn up to $60,000 per year (as reported by Tyson) after completing the program. Tyson is an equal opportunity employer.

Other Cedar Valley manufacturers are also hiring for machine and industrial maintenance positions. Wages may vary.

Students who successfully complete the Tyson Industrial Maintenance Mechanics program may earn credits toward Hawkeye’s Industrial Automation Technology AAS degree program.

To receive these credits:

  1. Apply for admission to Hawkeye's Industrial Automation Technology program
  2. Submit a transcript of your completed Industrial Maintenance Mechanics courses.

This program is open to everyone. You do not need to work at Tyson to join. However, if you are interested in a job at Tyson and want to join the program, you’ll need to follow their application process.
