What You Get

When you choose to study Elementary Education at Hawkeye, you’ll enjoy a high-quality education at an affordable cost.

The Elementary Education Transfer program helps you build a strong foundation for your teaching career. Dive into essential concepts and best practices for K-6 education while balancing program-specific courses with general education classes.

Develop and expand the knowledge and skills you’ll take into the field as a future teacher, such as:

  • Apply theories and principles of educational psychology to the learning process
  • Analyze the classroom strategies in the process of planning in the teaching field
  • Describe methods and models for effective teaching
  • Communicate effectively and think critically

Level One Field Experiences

Start building confidence as a future teacher right away. Your courses include a blend of lecture and application.

You’ll have plenty of hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, such as level one field experiences. These real-world experiences are integral to developing the practical skills and knowledge you’ll need to succeed in elementary education.

In the second year of this program, you’ll go out into the classrooms and begin active level one observations with cooperating teachers.

Teaching Portfolio

You will develop a portfolio of teaching strategies and tools. Prepare lesson plans, activity packets, teaching aides, and more.

Classroom Technology

Experience the technology of the modern-day classroom, including electronic assessment practices and interactive technology on whiteboards, iPads, and laptops.

With additional education, here are some of the careers in this field:

  • Elementary Teacher
  • Principal
  • School Psychologist
  • Curriculum Designer
  • Instructional Coach

Your AA in Elementary Ed is designed to transfer because you will need to complete at least a bachelor’s degree to become a teacher. We help make transferring as easy as possible.

An articulation agreement is a formal partnership between Hawkeye and another college or universitiy that helps make sure the classes you take count toward your transfer.
