Program Overview

Students in this program are motivated by a love for exercise, sports, and helping others. Many enjoy the health benefits of physical activity and want to share them. Others are inspired by their experiences in sports, aiming to coach or teach physical education. Some are driven by a desire to help others recover from injuries and regain confidence in movement.

Getting early experience in different kinesiology careers can help you choose the right path. In this program, you have the opportunity to observe professionals in various jobs to see what fits you best.

You learn by exploring real-life scenarios, apps for personal growth, and the ways technology can help certain populations meet their health and wellness goals.

You dig into the latest research and learn how to interpret findings.

Every spring you have the opportunity to attend the Kinesiology Symposium at the University of Northern Iowa, where you learn about new and emerging technology used in the field, including:

  • Body Composition Testing (BodPod and Underwater/Hydrostatic Weighing)
  • 3D Motion Analysis
  • Anatomy Cadaver Labs
  • Quiet Eye Training
  • Sports Performance

Many students transfer to a four-year university to pursue careers in a wide number of athletic, recreation, health, and exercise science fields. You'll work closely with your advisor to select the courses that best fit your career goals.

Other students choose to enter Hawkeye's Physical Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant programs.

" I just thought Hawkeye was perfect. With smaller class sizes, you have the chance to build those relationships with your professors and your peers. I would 100% recommend Hawkeye. "
