Admissions

Apply for a Program / Major—Admissions Process

Step 1

Choose a Program

What are your future career goals? Explore Hawkeye's programs and work with our Career Services Center to find the program that's right for you.

Not interested in enrolling in a program, but would like to take classes to transfer to another college or university? Register as a guest student.

 Step 2

Complete an Online Application

New Student Admissions Application

If you are not currently accepted into a program / major and are not a current Hawkeye student, complete the Admissions Application.

Change Your Program / Major Application

If you've been accepted or are currently enrolled at Hawkeye, complete the Change Your Program of Study Application to switch your program / major.

Readmission to Hawkeye

If you attended Hawkeye, but took a semester or longer off (excluding summer), you must complete the Admissions Application.

Also see Readmission After Suspension or Expulsion.

International Students Admissions Application

Learn more about the international student admissions process and complete the International Student Admissions Application.

Step 3

Complete Required Assessments

Register for the COMPASS assessment or request to have your assessment scores in reading, math, and writing sent to the Admissions office. If you have applied before you will not need to resend your assessment scores.

Basic skill competencies assessment provides information about your academic skills in reading, writing, and math. This information is used to determine your acceptance into your desired program and course selection when you register.

For course placement recommendations, based on your assessment score, review the Assessment Scores and Course Equivalences.

Accepted Assessments

Previous College Experience

Assessment may be waived based on previous college course work in reading, math, and writing. Send your official college transcripts to the Admissions office for evaluation.

Step 4

Complete Program Admission Requirements

Your program / major may have additional admission requirements or pre-requisites that you will need to complete for acceptance into the program. Review your program's admissions requirements.

Step 5

Send Official Transcripts

Request to have your official transcripts sent to the Admissions office. An official transcript is sent directly from your high school, college, university, or trade school in a sealed envelope.

Official high school and college transcripts received since 2008 should already be on file with the college. Contact Admissions if you have questions about previously submitted transcripts and assessment scores.

Step 6

Watch Your Mailbox for an Acceptance Letter

We will send you a letter of acceptance or non-acceptance in the mail notifying you of your acceptance status once you have completed the steps above.

Please allow one to two weeks for processing.

Letter of Acceptance

If you have been accepted we will assign you a start date. Start dates are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

You will also receive information about your My Hawkeye account and your Hawkeye email.

Accepted for a Future Semester

If you are accepted to a semester other than the one you applied for, your desired program is either full or does not start during the semester you requested.

However, you can still register for classes and take pre-coursework while waiting to get into your desired program. For more information, contact an Advisor in Student Services to schedule an appointment.

Watch our pre-admissions process video.

Letter of Non-Acceptance

If you were not accepted into your desired program, you can take pre-coursework in order to meet the requirements for admission. For more information, contact an Advisor in Student Services to schedule an appointment.

Once you have successfully completed the pre-coursework, you will need to re-apply for admission.
