background

Your Invitation to Register Email

When it’s time for you to register you’ll receive an email to your Hawkeye email with instructions on how to register.

Invitations to register are sent to students who are accepted to begin their program in the upcoming semester.

If you're accepted to a future semester and would like to take classes now, contact the Admissions office at 319-296-4000 or email Admissions. They can accept you to a pre-program that will allow you to register for pre-coursework.

Register to Secure Your Seat

Registration is first-come, first-served. Some programs fill up fast and have their own deadlines. If you wait too long to sign up, you might lose your spot in the program, and your application could become inactive.

Note: If you took some time off and missed a fall or spring semester, you will need to apply for admission to re-activate your program.

Step 1: Plan

Plan your class schedule carefully to keep changes to a minimum. Program length, cost, and financial aid may be affected if you change your courses or even a course section.

  1. Run a Degree Audit. A degree audit is a planning tool that helps you keep track of your progress toward finishing your degree requirements.
  2. Meet with your academic advisor to select classes and review your program progress. Your academic advisor will help to ensure you:
    1. are registering for the right classes in the correct course sequences
    2. understand your degree requirements
    3. are making progress towards graduation.
  3. Search for Courses and Course Sections. See what course sections are available and select the ones that fit your schedule. Course search is available three weeks before registration begins so you can start planning early!

Step 2: Register

Register for classes by going to Student Planning in Self-Service.

Academic advisors are available to help you register.

Note: you will not be able to register if you have a hold on your student account.

Registration Deadline

The registration deadline for 16 week Spring 2025 classes is Wednesday, January 15. Register on your own in Self-Service: Student Planning through January 10. To register January 11–15, you need the assistance of an academic advisor and faculty signature for approval to register.

Late Registration Policy

Step 1: Plan

  1. Visit with your academic advisor at your current college or university to be sure the courses you'd like to take at Hawkeye will transfer.
  2. Search for Courses and Course Sections and note the section and six digit course number.
  3. If a course has a prerequisite we require you to provide proof that you have met the prerequisite.

Note: some courses are reserved for Hawkeye students enrolled in a specific program of study.

Step 2: Apply to Hawkeye

Complete the Guest Student Application for Admission.

Note: If you were registered for a class in the fall or spring semester prior to the one you’re now looking to enroll in, you can skip this step.

Step 3: Register for Classes

Once your application is processed, you’ll get an email from the Registrar’s Office with registration instructions. This may take up to two business days.

To register, email the Registrar’s Office with the section and six digit course number of each class you want to register for. Include proof of prerequisites, if required.

Be sure to also include your first and last name along with your Hawkeye student ID number.

Registration deadline: the first day of class.

Step 4: Activate your My Hawkeye Account

Once registered, you'll get an email from the Registrar's Office. This may take up to two business days. This email will also have instructions on how to activate your My Hawkeye account and other important information.

A Note About Financial Aid

Guest students cannot receive financial aid through Hawkeye. Contact your college or university’s financial aid office to ask about aid for classes taken at Hawkeye.

Registering = Tuition Charged

Your student account is charged for every credit you register for, whether or not you attend. If you decide not to take a class, be sure to drop the class before the Tuition Refund Deadline to avoid paying for a course you don’t want. Payment is due on the first day of class. Set up a payment plan or pay your bill in full.
