Hawkeye Alert

Stay Informed During Emergencies

Hawkeye Alert is the college’s emergency notification system, designed to keep you informed during emergencies, weather events, and campus closures. Sign up to receive timely alerts via text, email, or phone to ensure you're always up to date and prepared.

All current credit students, faculty, and staff have their primary phone number, mailing address, and Hawkeye email address automatically loaded into Hawkeye Alert from their student or employee record.

Log in to the Hawkeye Alert to verify your contact information and add additional phone numbers, text message options, or email addresses to receive alerts during emergencies or severe weather events.

Please note:
  • Only current credit students, faculty, and staff can login to the Hawkeye Alert system.
  • You will automatically be removed from the Hawkeye Alert system when you leave the college or graduate.
  • Hawkeye Alerts are intended for people on or near campus. These emergency notifications may not be appropriate for everyone.
  • Hawkeye Alert will contact every phone number and email address you include in your profile.
  • If you choose to be notified via text message regular text messaging rates will apply. Please check with your cell phone provider about your text messaging plan and any costs associated with incoming text messages.
  • Hawkeye tests the Hawkeye Alert system at the beginning of each semester. If you do not receive a Hawkeye Alert on the scheduled test date, please login to verify your contact information is correct.
  • Hawkeye does not sell, lease, share, or rent personally identifiable information (names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc.) to any companies or persons outside of the College. Contact information you provide in your Hawkeye Alert profile will only be used to notify you of a college emergency or college closing.

It is our goal to have all contacts made within 20 minutes of sending the alert. However, circumstances such as the size of the notification audience and the time of day, may affect how quickly all contacts are made.

Voice Messages

  • When a Hawkeye Alert message is sent, the Hawkeye Alert system will call each phone number once, even if the number is entered in the system multiple times.
  • Calls from Hawkeye Alert system will come from the Hawkeye Alert and Information Line 319-296-4444.
  • We recommend programming a unique and audible ring tone for calls coming from the Hawkeye Alert number, especially if you set your phone to vibrate mode during class or meetings.

Text Messages

  • If you've opted-in to receive a text message on your cell phone, watch for a text message from Hawkeye Alert.
  • You will see 231-77 as the text messaging number sending you the confirmation message. Please save this number and program it as "Hawkeye Alert." This number will be the official source of Hawkeye Alert text messages.

Email Messages

  • The Hawkeye Alert message will be sent to your Hawkeye email address and any other email address you enter in your Hawkeye Alert contact preferences.

If you you notice your primary phone number or address is not correct when reviewing your Hawkeye Alert contact information, please update your student or employee record with your current contact information.

Students can change their primary contact information in Self-Service > Click on your name in the blue bar at the top of the page > Select About You.

Employees please contact Human Resource Services.

  • Your primary phone number should be the number you want Hawkeye to contact you for all college business.
  • Updates to your primary phone number or address in the Hawkeye Alert may take 12–24 hours.

Hawkeye is committed to keeping our campus safe and automatically includes all registered credit students and active employees in the Hawkeye Alert system. However, we realize there may be circumstances where you may choose not to be included in the alert notification system.

  1. Login to your Hawkeye Alert profile.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and check the "Opt Out" box.
  3. Click the "Update My Information" button to save the changes.

You may opt back into the system by removing the check mark in the “Opt out” box.

Former students and staff will automatically be taken out of the Hawkeye Alert system. You shouldn’t need to take any action when leaving the college.
