Emergency and Campus Closing Notification

How Will You Be Notified?

Hawkeye is committed to keeping you informed and safe during emergencies. In the event of severe weather, campus closures, delays, or other urgent situations, the college will send emergency notifications through multiple channels. Stay alert and make sure your contact information is up to date to receive timely updates.

During an emergency situation all Hawkeye computers that are logged onto the Hawkeye network will receive pop-up notifications with critical emergency information.

Campus Emergency Response and Immediate Notification Policy

Delayed Start Procedure

Severe weather or emergencies may cause Hawkeye Community College to delay the start of classes. If a delayed start is announced, classes will begin at the specified late-start time, and the regular schedule will resume afterward. Check official notifications for updates, and plan accordingly to stay safe and informed.

If Hawkeye opens late, plan to start your schedule at the announced late-start time.

For example, if the college opens at 10 AM, a class that normally starts at 9:30 AM will begin at 10 AM with a shortened class period. After that, the regular class schedule will resume.

You’ll be able to access campus 30 minutes before the late-start time.

Non-bargaining employees should report to work 30 minutes before the late-start time.

Faculty should plan to begin their schedule at the late-start time.

Employees will have access to the campus 45 minutes before the late-start time by way of Arboretum Drive or the East Main Entrance off Orange Road.

Employee badges will be necessary to gain entrance until 30 minutes prior to campus opening when electronic doors will be scheduled for public access.
