ACCUPLACER Assessment

Here are a few great ways to prepare for the ACCUPLACER assessment:

• Practice with free practice resources to help you get ready for each section of the ACCUPLACER test and set yourself up for success.

• Get to know the ACCUPLACER. Check out information and resources to help you prepare for ACCUPLACER course placement tests.

Make sure to have the following items for check-in:

1. A non-expired government-issued photo ID with your signature.
2. Your Hawkeye student ID number.

There’s no cost to take the ACCUPLACER for the first time if you’re testing for admission to Hawkeye.

However, there is a fee if you need to retake the test or send your scores to another school.

You can take the ACCUPLACER assessment up to three times in a 12-month period, starting from the date of your first test. There’s a 24-hour wait required between each attempt.

The retest fee is $5 per section. For example, if you need to retake all three sections—reading, writing, and math—the total fee would be $15.

Once you've paid your retest fees at the Hawkeye Business Office, we’ll create your voucher for the test.

If you want your ACCUPLACER scores sent to another school:

1. Fill out the Placement Test Scores Release Request form.
2. Pay the $25 fee at the Business Office

Once we receive both, we’ll send your scores within two business days.

If you have a documented disability, you can work with the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator to arrange accommodations for your testing.

To apply for accommodations, you’ll need to provide the following to the coordinator:

1. Student Reasonable Accommodation Request form [PDF]
2. Documentation of your disability

Your documentation needs to be pre-approved, and testing arrangements should be made in advance. All accommodations testing will take place on the Main Campus.

Once approved, both you and the testing manager will receive an email notification within 10 business days. After that, you can contact the Testing Center to schedule your accommodated ACCUPLACER assessment.

We recommend meeting with an academic advisor after your test to go over your results and talk about the best course options for you.

Course placement recommendations based on your scores

To schedule an appointment to take the ACCUPLACER assessment, contact the Independence Center at 319-332-0790 or email the Independence Center.

On the day of testing:

• Bring a non-expired government-issued photo ID with your signature.
• Check-in at the Independence Center, Independence High School, 700 20th Ave SW, Independence, IA 50644.

Making an appointment is preferred, but walk-ins will be accepted. To schedule an appointment to take the ACCUPLACER assessment, contact the Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center at 319-296-4278 or email the Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center.

On the day of testing:

• Bring a non-expired government-issued photo ID with your signature.
• Check-in at room 203 at the Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center, 120 Jefferson Street, Waterloo, IA 50701.

Testing hours at the Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center are:

• Monday and Wednesday 9 AM  – 4:30 PM
• Tuesday and Thursday 9 AM – 8:30 PM
• Friday, by appointment only

On the day of testing:

• Bring a non-expired government-issued photo ID with your signature.

• Check-in at the Western Outreach Center, 17040 Market Avenue, Holland, IA 50642.

If you are interested in studying at Hawkeye, but would like to take the ACCUPLACER closer to your home, please contact the Testing Center and we will help identify if there is a location closer to your home you can take the test remotely. If there is, we can create a remote testing voucher for you and walk you through the process to use that voucher.

Be aware the site you choose to test at will likely charge you a proctoring fee.

Meazure Learning lets you take the ACCUPLACER assessment online, so you can test whenever it’s most convenient for you—anytime, day or night, 365 days a year.

To take the ACCUPLACER assessment virtually, you'll need to pay the proctoring fees set by Meazure Learning.

• Live proctoring (Live+): $28
• For tests scheduled less than 72 hours in advance there is an additional $5 on-demand fee

Virtual Testing Voucher

To get started, just fill out and submit the Virtual Testing Voucher Request form.

Once your voucher is created, you'll receive an email from the proctoring service with all the details on how to move forward.

Paying the Proctoring Fees

The proctoring fees are paid directly to the proctoring service, not Hawkeye Community College.

You'll find payment instructions in your voucher email from the proctoring service.

If someone else is paying the fee for you, just share your voucher number with them, and they’ll need to call the proctoring service to make the payment.

Testing Accommodations

If you need testing accommodations, contact Hawkeye's Testing Center ahead of time to make the necessary arrangements.

Each test center has its own deadlines for submitting documentation and approving accommodations, so reach out as soon as possible before your test date.
