Tuition Refund Policy for Credit Classes

Tuition Refund Guidelines: What You Need to Know

For a full refund of tuition and fees for your class you must complete the official withdrawal process to reduce your credit hours or completely withdraw from Hawkeye by the Tuition Refund deadline.

Note: you’re still considered enrolled in your courses even if you never attend or stop attending. Simply not showing up for class doesn’t automatically withdraw you from the course. To officially withdraw, you’ll need to take action—be sure to follow the proper steps if you decide not to continue.

How to Withdraw From a Course

Deadline to Officially Withdrawal and Receive a Refund

If you officially withdraw from a class before it starts, you’ll get a full refund on your tuition.

However, if the class has already started, you’ll need to officially withdraw by 11:59 PM on the designated date for your class's term to qualify for a refund. Here is a quick guide:

  • 16-week term: 14th calendar day of the term
  • 12-week term: 10th calendar day of the term
  • 10-week term: 8th calendar day of the term
  • 8-week term: 7th calendar day of the term
  • 6-week term: 5th calendar day of the term
  • 5-week term: 4th calendar day of the term
  • 4-week term: 3rd calendar day of the term
  • Minimesters: 1st day of the Minimester

Refund Decision Appeal

You may appeal a refund decision by submitting a written request to the Financial Policy Waiver Committee. Be sure to explain your situation clearly in your request, and the committee will review it.
